I didn’t know what to do. I had a huge two-week seminar in San Francisco that I couldn’t miss, I mean, my career pretty much depended on it. But I didn’t know what to do with Mom. She can get by alone while I’m at work, but there was no way I could leave her alone for two weeks. I would be stressed out miles away and nervous wondering whether or not she was eating all right, keeping busy around the house, and safe.
So I discussed my dilemma with some acquaintances at church. They told me to look into Rest Haven’s Respite Care, and I did. Mom was a bit reluctant at first but she soon opened up. I’ll never forget talking to her on the phone a few days into her stay. She just couldn’t stop talking. She met new friends, found a checkers partner and was just beginning to learn how to quilt. She was happier than I had heard her in sometime. Surrounded by people her own age with similar hobbies, she was like a young child playing with her friends at the playground. Needless to say, I didn’t worry about Mom while I was at my seminar. In fact, I was able to attend to the business at-hand while knowing at-heart that Mom was enjoying herself in the safety and comfort of a blessed place called Rest Haven.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have your loved one try us out without a full commitment?
Maybe you do have a business trip or maybe you and your spouse would like to spend a weekend out of town celebrating an anniversary. And maybe Mom or Dad have been really bored lately and would benefit from spending a couple days with their peers. Of course, you might be nervous about Mom or Dad moving into a retirement facility. Testing the waters for a few days, or a week or more, might put you at ease, as well as allow them to get a feel for a new living environment.
