DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (Friday, July 14, 2006) – “We’re just thrilled that State Representative Pihos could be here,” said Jackie Terpstra, Administrator at Rest Haven West Christian Skilled Nursing Facility. Representative Pihos visited the facility Wednesday evening, July 12, to meet residents and accept a “Partners in Quality” award. “She was warm, engaging, and articulate, and this gave her an opportunity to see for herself what quality looks like in older adult services.”
State Representative Pihos indicated she would love to re-visit Rest Haven West “on a regular basis,” perhaps to facilitate a current events “class” for interested seniors and their families. She also invited herself to a future meeting of the Resident Council.
Terpstra is looking forward to fostering a close relationship with State Representative Pihos. She hopes that by developing partnerships with local legislators, she can increase awareness of senior needs as well as appreciation for the programs and services Rest Haven offers to improve the quality of life for residents. “We believe quality should be an automatic expectation,” says Terpstra. “Yes, it requires commitment, responsibility, and a respect for life at all stages—and those are values we take seriously.”
Rest Haven West is a member of Life Services Network (LSN) and is participating in “Partners in Quality,” a grassroots advocacy program. The staff chose to present Representative Pihos with the “Partners in Quality” award because of her personal dedication to the advancement of quality in older adult services throughout Illinois.
