Victorian Village Hosts special Presentation on THE CHRISTMAS TREE SHIP

Homer Glen, Ill. (Monday, December 17, 2007) – Author Rochelle Pennington will bring her holiday presentation about the “Christmas Tree Ship” to Victorian Village on Monday, December 17, 2007, at 10:30am. Pennington’s program details the story of “Captain Santa” (Captain Herman Schuenemann) and his annual voyage down Lake Michigan to deliver fresh-cut Christmas trees to Chicago, until his schooner was shipwrecked in the “Great Storm of 1912.”

Pennington has authored two books on the Christmas Tree Ship, which currently rests on the bottom of Lake Michigan. To this day, the ship is still loaded with trees and is a popular Great Lakes dive site. Pennington will share present-day, underwater photographs of Christmas trees still visible in the ship’s hold.

Pennington is a freelance author and newspaper columnist from Wisconsin whose work has been included in several best-selling series including Chicken Soup for the Soul, Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff, and Stories for the Heart.

Space for this holiday presentation is limited, so Victorian Village requests that anyone interested in the program RSVP by Friday, December 14 to Samantha at 708-301-0800. Victorian Village Christian Retirement Community is located at 12600 West Renaissance Circle (1/4 mile east of Bell Road on 143rd Street) in Homer Glen, Illinois.
